Who is this course for?

GUIDED LEARNING HOURS RECOMMENDED BY CITY & GUILDS = 41 / TOTAL QUALIFICATION TIME = 55

It is aimed at practising electricians who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or who require some update of training before going onto other City & Guilds qualifications. The qualification is also suitable for those with limited experience of periodic inspection of electrical installations, such as those entering the industry from other engineering disciplines or who have been working in allied trades. The qualification prepares candidates for the periodic inspection of electrical installation which is aimed at practising electricians who have not carried out inspection and testing since qualifying or who require some update of training before going onto other City & Guilds qualifications. The course fully prepares candidates for the periodic inspection of electrical installation work and the completion of the associated Electrical Installation Condition Report and schedules etc.

Assessment

Candidates must:

• successfully complete one online multiple choice test (2391-501).

• successfully complete one practical assessment 1:1 with an assessor in the centre (2391-051).


 

Materials Required

All candidates will be provided with  extensive training materials. Candidates are required to bring along a non-programmable scientific calculator and standard stationary. The course is designed to verify that candidates are fully familiar with the content and application of Guidance Note 3 published by the IET. All candidates are advised to obtain a copy of the following publication for reference throughout the course.

Entry Requirements

New Learner entry requirements from July 2024.

It would be expected that candidates have previously achieved a Level 3 Electrotechnical qualification or similar before undertaking this qualification.


This qualification must not be taken by learners new to the industry who do not possess sufficient skills, knowledge, and experience to undertake inspection and testing safely and competently. This qualification is also not suitable for learners with limited experience of working in the electrotechnical sector, or who do not already hold relevant Level 3 electrotechnical qualifications. Centres should conduct a thorough initial assessment of applicants to establish that their current skills, knowledge, and experience is sufficient prior to qualification enrollment.
